Keep excess CO2 out of your reef tank with the BRS Jumbo CO2 Scrubber!

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) can directly affect the pH of your aquarium, and with a low pH, corals may not grow as fast. Connecting a CO2 scrubber directly to the venturi on your skimmer along with CO2 absorption media you can control the amount of CO2 that is being sucked into your skimmer, effectively raising the pH of your tank by removal of excess CO2.

Requires CO2 Absorbent Media (not included)

CO2 is by far the number one cause to low pH in household aquariums. Ambient CO2 can vary from building to building and depending on your location it may not be practical to keep your windows open or pull fresh air from outside into the skimmer. By relocating your protein skimmer's air intake from the silencer over to the CO2 scrubber can actually increase your tank's pH by a couple points. Depending on the amount of ambient CO2 in the room it is not uncommon for tanks to raise from 7.8 pH up to 8.3 pH within a couple of days but results can vary.

Directions:

Connect the included 3/8" tubing to your protein skimmer's air intake and the output side of the reactor. It is usually easiest to remove your skimmer's silencer and directly attach the CO2 Scrubber tubing your pumps venturi.

Unscrew the body from the head of the reactor and remove the refillable cartridge. Add 1 to 2 Tbsp of RODI water to the bottom of the reactor body making sure that it does not touch the CO2 media when the cartridge is replaced. Completely fill the refillable cartridge insert with your preferred CO2 absorbing media and place back into the reactor housing.

Monitor your tank's pH hourly for the first couple days of use. When your pH starts to drop in value (usually 2-4 weeks depending on tank size and CO2 concentration) you will need to replace the media. Most CO2 absorbing media will have a color changing indicator to let you visually see when it has depleted and needs to be changed.

Product Questions

Is there a rating to determine what size tank this scrubber can handle? For example, is this or the double jumbo overkill for a 75-gallon system?
Question by: Danny Castaneda on Dec 23, 2023, 12:27 AM
0
We usually recommend the standard CO2 scrubber for tanks up to 120 gallons, and the Jumbo for any tanks above that.

Can you tell us the actual part numbers or sizes for the fittings on the inlet/outlet ports? Basically what parts do we need to make both sides the same reducer, right angle valve, and John guest push connector? The kit includes one set but I need the other side so I can make this into a recirculating design.
Question by: Steve on Feb 26, 2023, 2:40 AM

We do not carry the 1" to 3/8" reducer as a SKU currently. The rest of the parts would be as follows:

3/8" push connect: 200606

https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/mur-lok-male-npt-x-push-connect.html""

3/8" elbow ball valve: 200805

The capacity is listed as 6 cups but can you tell us how much this is in kg or lbs so we can compare to other products like the IceCap?
Question by: Steve on Feb 25, 2023, 1:13 PM

This Jumbo Co2 scrubber has a capacity of 1400mL. Our Co2 media in the 1.2lb package is approx 800mL and our 7.5lb bag is approx 5600mL. They can be found here: https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/color-changing-co2-absorbent-media-bulk-reef-supply.html

CAN U TELL ME WHERE I CAN GET THE 1" X 3/8 NPT PITTING?
Question by: YHA KIN KIM on Dec 15, 2022, 2:49 AM

Hey there,

Thanks for the question. If you call into our customer service line we can assist you with that. Thanks!

That is a great question!
While we do not carry a single fitting that will go from 1" to 3/8" NPT we do carry two reducing bushings that would work to accomplish this goal. SKU: 202599 and SKU: 202596 would work found on the link below:

What are those screws of top of the lid for? The two brass one and the blue one ?
Question by: Luke Pham on Jun 5, 2022, 1:52 AM
0
Thanks for the question! The blue screw is a vent for the canister itself if using for water filtration to let air escape. The brass screws are the same thing or a pressure release for the inlets and outlets since air may get trapped in those ports and not escape to the canister. For a CO2 scrubber, these aren't used as there is no need to let air escape. Please let us know if we can help with anything else!

Does this have 2x screw in barbs or just 1? If only 1 then what size do I need?
Question by: brandon on May 19, 2022, 12:15 AM
0
Hey Brandon, thanks for the question. These have a 1" to 3/8" reducing bushing connection on the output. The input is an empty 1" port. If you would like that fitting, feel free to give us a call as we do not sell it on the site but can get it for you.

How can I attach this to tunze 9001 dc skimmer
Question by: Luke Pham on Dec 15, 2021, 5:11 PM
0
Thank you for reaching out with your question. The Tunze 9001 uses a smaller airline than the output of the jumbo scrubber so you would need to reduce the scrubber's line down. I would use the following parts to do that:

https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/mur-lok-stem-adapter-tube-x-hose-stem.html
(One 1/4 inch and one 3/8 inch)

Can this be used as a DI resin unit?
Question by: H&M llc on Dec 3, 2021, 1:48 AM
0
The Jumbo CO2 scrubber can be used for DI but packing the canister tightly enough to not channel can be very difficult. We run 500 GPD RO systems in our office but continue to use standard DI canisters because we find packing larger canisters to be much more trouble than it is worth. Running multiple DI canisters in series is a better way to increase the capacity instead of larger canisters.
