Why does BRS recommend this?

Tunze Stream pumps are some of the quietest pumps for the price.  We have used these pumps in multiple tank builds and have never been disappointed.  They are not necessarily the cheapest AC powered pumps on the market, however they are very quiet, can be pointed in any direction, and have one of the industry’s best warranty and customer service through Tunze USA.

German-made Tunze powerheads are one of the best high flow powerheads available. They are smaller and can be hidden in the aquarium easier than competing brands. Tunze pumps can be configured in a wide range of positions to target any area of the tank.

Features

  • They are the smallest pumps available and easy to hide.
  • They rotate to a wide range of angles for targeted flow.
  • They consume less power.
  • Available accessories such as the Tunze Rock and Controllers make them even more user-friendly.
  • Excellent warranty and customer service.

Proper flow is very important to maintaining a thriving healthy aquarium. Aquariums with poor flow can experience a number of easily avoidable health issue. Using high flow powerheads in your aquarium will:

  • Significantly decrease the risk of algae outbreaks.
  • Keep waste and particles suspended longer so skimmers and filters have a better chance of removing them.
  • Prevent toxic pockets from forming in hard to reach areas.
  • Keep debris from collecting on corals.
  • Keep food suspended longer so you can add less food.
  • Increase the chances of long term healthy tank success.

Product Questions

I want to cycle a powerhead on and off with a third party controller. Will this powerhead ever start in reverse or chatter when starting?
Question by: kraig on Nov 9, 2017, 11:54 PM
The Tunze pumps are not designed to be used with a wavemaking device. Tunze does make DC powered pumps that can be controlled but the AC powered ones may chatter when they start up. We would suggest taking a look into the Hydor Evolution, or Rossmont Mover pumps if you are looking at connecting them to an on/off wavemaker.

Can I add the Tunze wave control system to this style pump? If so what components do I need?

Thanks!

Great question! Unfortunately, the Tunze 6025 is not controllable and will not work with any Tunze Multicontroller. :-(

can I programs this pump with my apex for on and off wave maker scenarios ?
will it hold up?
Question by: vincent on May 10, 2016, 6:13 PM
Great question! These pumps can be set up on the Neptune energy bar to turn on/off, and they certainly will hold up to this function, however, on/off action will shorten the life span of any pump you choose to set up this way.

What size power head would you suggest for a 18 gallon nano reef? I will be placing different types of coral in it. There are so many options I don't want to get more than what I need and will I need to get more than one to keep down dead spots? The aquarium footprint is 16” x 16” x 17” for a total of 18 gallons.
Question by: Craig Watkins on Mar 9, 2016, 6:05 PM
Great question!Anything around 180-250 would work well and on a tank of that size you will not need multiple. You can get standard powerheads such as the Hydor Koralia Nano 240GPH or DC controlable options Such as the Tunze Turbelle 6040.
