Why does BRS recommend this?

One of the biggest devastating accidents with an aquarium can be a leak or overflow.  An overflowing tank or leaking piece of equipment can cause a ton of damage especially if you have nice floors around the tank.  The ALD module will hook directly up to any Apex Controller and with the Neptune Leak Detection probes can alert you of any possible leak that may be occurring by strategically placing the probes around the stand, sump, and tank.

Hard surface probe to be used in conjunction with the Advanced Leak Detection Module: ALD from Neptune Systems.

  • Detect leaks on solid surfaces such as wood, tile or cement floors
  • Place inside aquarium cabinet
  • Weighted design stays put to detect leaks

Product Questions

This probe has a telephone cable looking adapter. What does it plug into? The FMM module doesn't appear to have a port for this specific probe.
Question by: Kevin on Apr 3, 2020, 12:30 PM
Hi Kevin,

There are actually 2 versions of the Apex water sensors and modules.
The probe with the phone style plug is used with the ALD module while the LD-1 and LD-2 probes are used with the FMM module. I have linked those probes below.

I hope this helps!

Hello

I am considering setting up the full leak detection module and probes. Can I set this up to turn off my return pumps if it detects a leak? Otherwise this would be useless if I am away from the aquarium
Question by: Arnold Lee on Jun 5, 2017, 12:24 PM
You can definitely do that. One of the great things about the Apex is that it gives you the ability to not only monitor and get alerts about sensor inputs, but you can program each outlet to take action for you based on any of the sensor inputs as well as sending you text/email alerts if your Apex is connected to the internet.

Happy reefing!

Will this work with my Apex Jr? The cord is not USB, so do I need to buy another module?
Question by: Tyson on Dec 19, 2016, 12:22 PM
Hey there,
The leak detection probes will work with all models of Apex including the Jr, but they will all require the ALD module to function, and then the probes are plugged into the ALD.

I have two questions:
1. What is the dimension of the actual module?
2. Is the module adhesive mounted?
Question by: Joe on Jun 3, 2016, 7:46 AM
Great question! The dimensions on this module are 2.5"L x .75"W x 1.75"H . They do not come with any sort of adhesive bottom and are placed directly on the desired surface.

How long are the cords on this leak detector and the low profile one?
Question by: Matthew on Apr 15, 2016, 9:16 PM
Great question!
These will come with 8 foot cords attached. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!

Hi guys,...can the leak detector be hooked up to my sump in a way to alert to LOW water?...or is there another piece of equipment to do this function? Thanks in advance.---Rick
Question by: Rick on Mar 13, 2016, 2:22 PM
Great question!
This is used to sense if any water is on the floor and will not work in the sump. There is an alternative which is the Neptune Systems Breakout Box and a standard float switch. This could sense is the float switch is triggered or not. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!
