Why does BRS recommend this?

The Glycerin filled pressure gauges are our preferred gauge.  Compared to an air-filled gauge they will be much quieter as water has a tendency to vibrate when running, as well as lasting much longer as the oil in the gauge will soak up the vibrations which can cause excessive wear on air-filled gauges.

 

Sufficient PSI is very important for the correct operation of a reverse osmosis unit. Low water pressure is a leading cause of poor RO system performance. A pressure gauge assures that proper pressure is being supplied. It will also make pressure drops apparent which can tell you that sediment and carbon blocks need to be changed.


Glycerin filled pressure gauges absorb vibration and pressure spikes increasing service life. This glycerin filled pressure gauge comes assembled with 1/4" quick connect fittings for quick easy installation in-line before the RO Membrane. This item is designed for use with our saltwater aquarium line of RO systems.

Do you sell just the NPT to push connection that you show in this picture? The one that screws to the gauge, and other end is 1/4 RO tubing. I cannot find.

In the installation video Randy does the RO unit shows the valve nicely mounted on the unit mounting rack. The tutorial only shows line placement and leaves gauge “flopping” around. How can I install on mounting rack?

Depending on the mounting rack and brand of RO/DI there may be a mounting hole already provided on the mounting rack. If there isn't you would need to drill a hole the appropriate size for the gauge plumbing.(slightly larger size as the brass threads but smaller than the section you apply a wrench to) If there is a supplied hole on the mounting rack then you can disassemble the gauge from the first Mur-Lok adapter, use fresh teflon tape on the threads of the gauge, insert the gauge into the mounting hole, and reinstalling the Mur-Lok fitting underneath the mounting rack. This will hold the gauge in place securely and make reading the gauge easy.

Great question! This does not have to be installed in a vertical position to read pressure. :-)
