The 4" Filter Media Cup adapter slides onto the Filter Media Cup to accommodate C shaped filter sock holders or those with slightly larger diameter holders. They will not fit Trigger Systems Sumps with an oval-shaped sock holder.

Yes, the 4 inch media cup adapter will allow you to use 4 inch socks or cups in the 4.5 inch sock holder.
