1/4" Automatic shut off valves are used with float valves or pressurized tanks to shut off an RO system. It utilizes the back pressure created by the float valve or pressurized tank to shut off the water supply to the membrane. Without an automatic shut off valve waste water would continue to run out after the float valve is activated or tank becomes full.

Product Questions

How long should the shut off take to shut off the waste water. I just replaced mine and I shut the product water off and the waste water still filled a 5 gallon bucket before I just turned the product water back on
Question by: Shawn Heller on May 6, 2022, 8:12 PM
It depends upon your RODI system. Single membrane systems shut off water faster than dual membrane ones and the addition of a booster pump can change the length of time as well. Also check to make certain your flush valve (if installed) is in the closed position (perpendicular to the attached tubing) as that would increase the flow of waste water.

I am adding and Add On Faucet Kit to my RO system to provide drinking water and also feed water to my DI canister for reeftank water. I currently do not have an auto shutoff valve or a float valve. How would I set this system up to keep the drinking water tank (DI canister bypassed) and my reef water reservoir (after the DI canister) full? Do you have plumbing diagrams available for me to follow?

What PSI are these valves rated to shut off? Is there a way to adjust them? Thank you.
Question by: Ian on Nov 16, 2017, 8:28 PM
The Auto Shut Off Valves will shut off the incoming water supply when the output has reached 66% back pressure in relation to the input. We do not suggest operating the Auto Shut Off Valves over 100 PSI.

Will this work on the water supply line with the float in a waste water tank. I don't use any electric pumps on my RO system, just a permeate pump. We save the permeate from our system to use around the house. If not are there other options, maybe a solenoid that can shut down the water production when a tank is full.
Question by: John on Jan 18, 2017, 12:53 PM
Awesome question! This is intended to function with the back pressure built up when the product water line is stopped. On most of our units, this auto shut off comes already installed. Once the reservoir or pressurized drinking water tank is full, back pressure begins to build up in the system. When that back pressure reaches a certain point, this will engage and shut the waste water off as well. It is much like shutting off your kitchen faucet. :-)

Hello, I have the BRS 5 stage with drinking water add on and premate pump. The waste water constantly is running lately. Would this indicate the pressure switch is failing?
Question by: Erik on Aug 11, 2016, 7:32 PM
Great question! If your waste water is continuing to run, this would suggest an issue either with the auto shut off valve on your unit, or possibly a lack of sufficient pressure to activate the auto shut off on the line. Assuming you have good pressure, it would be worthwhile looking at replacing the ASOV. If necessary, it is an easy part to replace. :-)

When i purchased this the unit came with safety clips for all the mur-lok fittings. I would like to buy to safety clips separately for all my other mur-lok fittings. Can you get bags of these in 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 sizes? (pretty mediocre question ;) )
Question by: thomas allison on Jun 12, 2016, 4:17 PM
Hey there!
I have included the link below for the tube clips to hold in the tubing. these are sold individually in 1/4" and 1/2" sizes. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions.

I have had my custom system for 5 years now. Used for drinking and saltwater mix. Seems lately the auto shut off wont shut off. Tried cleaning it, didnt help. My question is would i be better off buying another autoff valve or a permeate pump or both?
Question by: Joey on Jul 19, 2014, 1:19 PM
If you have a pressurized storage tank I would just pick up the permeate pump. It is going to save you a lot of waste water and will pack more water into the tank!

I have te typhoon III EXTREME from air water ice and my auto top off seems to be working fine, but the waist water doesn't ever shut off. My reservoir bucket turns off perfectly.Could it be the auto shut off? Do they go bad after a few years?
Question by: Mike on Oct 29, 2013, 6:39 AM
Hey Mike,
There isn't much to go wrong with an auto shut off valve so it doesn't happen very often. Normal auto shut offs work by turning off the supply water when the product water line builds up enough pressure. If its not turning off, its usually because the product water line isn't building up enough pressure so its a matter of finding out why. The most common reason is just that the filters have become clogged and the unit just can't built up the pressure effectively, but its also worth checking and making sure that you don't have a small leak anywhere on the product line or something to that effect as well :-)
