    • Includes 2-Month Trident ACM Reagent Kit

The Neptune Systems Trident ACM is an automated testing device designed to continuously monitor alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium in saltwater reef aquariums. By removing the need for manual test kits, the Trident delivers consistent, high-frequency data that helps reef keepers better understand consumption trends, detect issues early, and maintain long-term stability.

The Trident connects directly to a compatible Neptune Systems Apex controller and logs every test result into Apex Fusion, where results are graphed over time and can trigger alerts or automated actions. When paired with a Neptune Systems DÅŒS or DÅŒS QuietDrive dosing pump, the Trident becomes the foundation of a closed-loop testing and dosing system that can automatically adjust additive delivery to maintain target parameters.

    How it Works

The Trident uses automated titration combined with an internal colorimeter to replicate the same chemical testing process used in manual hobby test kits, but with far greater consistency. On a scheduled basis, the Trident draws a small water sample from the aquarium, mixes it with reagent, and precisely measures the color change using a controlled peristaltic pump system.

Once the test is complete, the sample and reagent are expelled to an external waste container, and the measured value is logged into the Apex. This process repeats automatically based on the testing schedule you define.

    Apex Integration & Alerts

All Trident test results are displayed in Apex Fusion, where data is stored, graphed, and analyzed over time. Users can configure alerts to notify them if alkalinity, calcium, or magnesium move outside of a defined safe range.

Beyond notifications, Trident data can also be used to trigger automated responses such as pausing dosing, adjusting output, or activating other connected equipment to help protect the aquarium from instability.

Automatic Dosing Control with Neptune DÅŒS

When paired with one or more Neptune Systems DÅŒS dosing pumps, the Trident allows you to enable optional Automatic Dosing Control (ADC). ADC takes results from the Trident and uses them to gradually adjust what the DÅŒS delivers. Built-in safeguards protect your aquarium by comparing measured changes against dosing adjustments. Dosing changes are limited to ±35% per adjustment. If no expected change is detected, ADC will shut down auto tuning, notify you, and revert to the original dosing levels.

    Setup & Operation

Installation is designed to be quick and straightforward. The Trident connects via a single cable to the Apex's EB832 Power Bar, uses two lengths of tubing for sample intake and waste output, and is configured through guided setup tasks in Apex Fusion. No manual calibration, reagent mixing, or probe tuning is required.

Testing is quiet and compact enough to run inside most aquarium cabinets without drawing attention.

    Compatible Neptune Systems Apex Controllers

    Product Questions

    Product Questions

How much tank water does it use per cycle? I have a small 25 gallon system and I'm worried about my ATO adding too much RODI water as the trident is pulling out tank water 4x per day. I don't want this throwing off my salinity if I'm gone for a few days
Question by: Tom on Jul 30, 2024, 11:32 AM
It will use 7mL per test/parameter.
Answer by: Grace (BRS Staff) on Aug 1, 2024, 3:24 PM
Does the trident have a built in waste container? Or do you have to have a waste line running down into a drain near it for it to work properly?
Question by: matt van dyck on Sep 5, 2022, 3:47 PM
    Hey there,
Thank you for reaching out to us. It does not come with a waste container. You can either have it near the drain or just going into a jug.

Please let me know if you need anything further and take care!
Answer by: Matt Lucero (BRS Staff) on Sep 9, 2022, 7:54 AM
Can you set the trident to test once a day or once every two days?
Question by: Karen on Aug 16, 2022, 4:21 PM
Thanks for reaching out to us! No the minimum number of tests for the Trident is 4 times a day in order to prevent sample water from drying out which can cause salt crystals to form and block the tubing inside the Trident. Please let us know if we can help with anything else!
Answer by: Kyle Thomas (BRS Staff) on Aug 17, 2022, 1:25 PM
Can the unit operate by itself? Do you need an Apex controller? I plan on using it as s sole monitor of Calcium, Alk, and Magnesium. I already have (a non-Apex) dosing system. I don't want to start over. But just need a Monitoring system. I currently check parameters with the Hanna Checkers. Please clarify if I need additional equipment or can it be used to only monitor? Thank you.
Question by: Quan Tran on Aug 16, 2022, 4:19 PM
Thanks for the questions! The Trident will only work with an Apex controller of some sort. I'd recommend at least the A3 Apex that comes with an EB832. Alternatively, you could do the A3 Apex Jr and get a 1 Link Module to connect the Trident to or purchase an AquaBus Cable and power supply for the Trident. Summarized below are the options for using the Trident.

    1. Used with the A3 Apex Pro or A3 Apex by plugging included 1Link cable to EB832
    2. Used with A3 Apex Jr with additional 1Link Module for connecting the Trident
    3. Used with A3 Apex Jr with additional power supply and AquaBus Cable connected to the Trident

Will it work with the neptune apex jr?
Question by: Daniel ceron on Nov 20, 2021, 10:26 PM
This will not work with the Jr. or Classic.
Answer by: Matt Lucero (BRS Staff) on Nov 22, 2021, 9:48 AM
I read about a requirement to send in the Trident to Neptune for annual maintenance. I didn't see anything like that in the instructions or on the Neptune website... Is it true my Trident will have to be sent annually for maintenance?
Question by: Scott Claus on Jan 4, 2020, 9:48 PM
    Hey there!

Neptune has said that there will be some program but there have not been any official announcements or details.

    Take care
Answer by: Thomas Billington on Jan 5, 2020, 10:39 AM
How will these work with a calcium reactor?
Question by: Tracy Edwards on Jun 8, 2019, 7:49 PM
    Hey there,
Great question! There is no formal wizard at this time that allows for the control of a calcium reactor (CaRx) with the Trident.

It is Neptune Systems opinion that a CaRx should handle 90% of your calcification needs and the additional 10% or so, can be modulated through liquid dosing. A Trident paired with a D?S can dynamically control that liquid additive for the delivering the most appropriate amount for the current rate of calcification.

With all that being said, there are certainly CaRx users that are using the Trident to control their CaRx. Visit the link below on the Neptune Systems Community Forum to see how and please let us know if you have any further questions. Happy Reefing!

Now that these are out, (and I'm sure someone there grabbed one ;-), can you give me the size measurements? I'm rearranging things under my tank, and want to figure out how much space to leave for it.
Question by: Jeremy King on May 28, 2019, 12:05 PM
    Hey there,
    12" x 4 1/2" x 10" (L,W,H). Happy Reefing!

Does the Trident work with the apexLE?
Question by: Jesus Lopez on May 8, 2019, 5:57 PM
    Hey Jesus,
Thank you for reaching out to us. The Trident will work with the APEX EL.

Let us know if you have any further questions and take care!

Any update on the release date?
Question by: Josh on Sep 7, 2018, 9:51 AM
    Hey there!

Unfortunately we still do not have any update on the release. We are hoping for Black Friday or Christmas time!
Answer by: Thomas on Sep 7, 2018, 2:09 PM
I have the Apex Classic, if I purchase the new Apex Base Unit, is that all I’ll need to add this to my system?
Question by: Hunter on Jul 3, 2018, 11:23 PM
    Great question!

If you replace your old head unit with the new Apex Base Unit you will be able to run the Trident when it comes out.
