Why does BRS recommend this?

Trigger systems has been making sumps for quite some time now and they have won us over with their attention to detail, practical designs and overall aesthetic appeal. With the ability to modify the sump to your needs with adjustable water levels, interchangeable plates , tube holders, probe holders, and enough room to put equipment where ever you need it.

Sapphire 26

  • Dimensions: 26″ long x 13″ wide x 15″ high
  • Skimmer Section: 8.25″ x 10″
  • Center/Refugium Section: 7.75″ x 12.5″
  • Return Pump Section: 5″ x 12.5″
  • Total Water Volume: 20.4 gallons
  • Skimmer Water Level: 7″ to 9.5″ adjustable
  • Drain Input Fittings: 1
  • Filter Socks: 1

The Sapphire series introduces several new features not found anywhere else. Some of the features of Trigger sumps are:

  • Interchangeable plates (PAT PENDING)
  • Lid to prevent splashing
  • Adjustable water height
  • Self-adjusting foam block platform (PAT PENDING)
  • Dual platforms
  • Protein skimmer section
  • Refugium section
  • Sapphire blue coloring to block light and prevent unwanted algae growth in other sections

Sapphire Water Flow

Water enters the Sapphire sumps into a dedicated section where the water will then flow over into Section 1.

Section 1 where the interchangeable plate is located allowing for either filter sock or foam block mechanical filtration. This area is covered with a lid to prevent water splashing. Water then flows out the bottom of Section 1 into Section 2.

Section 2 is typically where the protein skimmer is located. Water then flows through the ‘Trigger Symbol’ cutout into Section 3.

Section 3 is the refugium section. The water then flows over the second baffle through 2 perforated platforms and under the third baffle into Section 3. The top perforated platform comes with a foam block filter and the bottom one is open to use for several different filtration methods (bag of carbon, bio balls, rubble rock, etc.).

Section 4 is the return water section back into the tank. This is where the return pump will sit.

Interchangeable Plates (PAT PENDING)

Each Sapphire sump comes with two plates that can be placed into Section 1:

  • Filter Sock Plate
  • Foam Block Plate

The filter sock plate is installed when the included 100 micron filter socks are desired.

The foam block plate is perforated with holes and comes with a foam sponge block filter. The foam block plate can be used when filter socks are not desired or in the case when the filter socks need to be changed or cleaned but replacements socks are not readily available but yet mechanical filtration is needed. In this case, simply remove the filter sock plate and install the perforated foam block plate and then place the included foam sponge block filter in place.

Adjustable Water Level

Water level in the sump is adjustable from 7” to 9.5” to accommodate for the water height requirements for different protein skimmers.

Self-Adjusting Foam Block (PAT PENDING)

As the water level is adjusted by sliding the wall up and down, the foam block sponge filter and the perforated plate that it sits on will also move up and down automatically. This is important to maintain the correct location of the foam block sponge filter with respect to the sump water height.

Probe Holder

All Sapphire sumps come with a probe holder that can hold up to three probes. The two outside holes are 0.63” in diameter and the center hole is 0.8” in diameter to fit different sized probes.

Hose Holder

All Sapphire sumps also come with 4 holes in the top support brace for holding in place 1/4” OD tubing from reactors, dosing pumps, ATO, etc.

Product Questions

What's the warranty mines leaking and bought it 1,25,2024
Question by: Brian on Sep 3, 2024, 3:19 PM
There should be a 1 year warranty for the Trigger sumps.
Answer by: Grace (BRS Staff) on Sep 5, 2024, 2:02 PM
What size is the filter sock on this item
Question by: DONSHA Sturgis on Sep 18, 2022, 5:35 AM
Hey there,
Thank you for reaching out to us. This takes a 4x 10-12" sock.

Please let me know if you need anything further and take care!
Answer by: Matt Lucero (BRS Staff) on Sep 20, 2022, 8:08 AM
What size tank max should I use this on??
Question by: Sven Pflug on Jul 29, 2022, 1:57 PM
Thanks for the question! There is no hard and fast rule on max aquarium size. If the equipment you select for a 180 gallon tank fits in the sump then it should work out just fine. We recommend selecting your skimmer and other in sump equipment then picking a sump that'll accomodate the equipment and fit where it's being placed. Let us know if we can help with anything else!
Answer by: Kyle Thomas (BRS Staff) on Aug 2, 2022, 1:38 PM
So what kind of filtration would be recommend in section three before going to return pump section, and would you put it in during the cycling phase or after tank has been cycled?
Question by: Sven Pflug on Jul 21, 2022, 5:10 AM
Thanks for the question! Most commonly people will do a protein skimmer and refugium, however, this is going to depend on the system and the filtration needs. I would leave it open until the tank is more mature and see if nitrates and phosphates are out of hand before setting up the refugium rather than starting during the cycle. Please let us know if we can help with anything else!

Question by: Rabee on Feb 3, 2022, 1:14 AM

Answer by: Matt Lucero (BRS Staff) on Feb 3, 2022, 9:42 AM
How many gallons is the refugeium section?
Question by: Paul on Mar 24, 2020, 9:32 PM
Hey there,
Thanks for reaching out to us. The refugium sections would be 2.93-3.98 gallons and would be dependent on the water level height as you can adjust between 7-9.5". Happy Reefing!
Answer by: Mark Schlough on Mar 25, 2020, 10:56 AM
What size is the intake tube in section 1?
Question by: Peter on Sep 19, 2018, 2:49 PM
Thanks for contacting BRS!
The fitting on this sump to connect to your overflow will be 1". Have a great day!
Answer by: Noah on Sep 19, 2018, 4:48 PM
I have a 75 gallon Tank, what size/ gallon of sump do i need. 20 gal or larger.
Question by: kevin kincaid on Jun 3, 2017, 2:03 PM
While there isn't really a specific formula for tank to sump size, 20% of display volume is what I would consider a minimum ratio. Really the most important considerations will be to ensure you have enough reserve volume in the sump to hold water from the display in the event pumps are shut off and water flows down to the sump, and then also to make sure you have room for any desired equipment.
Answer by: Zack on Jun 9, 2017, 2:54 PM
What's the difference between this and the Emerald 26? Just color?
Question by: ThatFishGuy on Nov 21, 2016, 11:35 AM
Great question! You are correct, the color is the only difference between the Emerald and Sapphire line. :-)
