I'm curious, I bought this refill kit to replace the one from the reef foundation kit (cal,alk,mag) and the bottles for A and B chemicals are larger in the refill. Does this just mean I can do more tests off the refill vs from the reef foundation kit, or are the instructions different. The refill didn't come with instructions, plus when I did the test with the foundation kit I was getting 1440~ now i get about 1280 only a few days later with the refill. I did the tests twice sometimes with the old kit thinking it was wrong and would always get 1400+

The reagent is identical to what you received in your Reef Foundation kit, it is just a larger volume to allow for more tests. Most likely the reagents you may have had were getting old and possibly slightly contaminated from air contact. If you have another test kit or LFS to give you a second opinion on the different readings that would be preferred to know which result is accurate. However with magnesium in the range of 1280 – 1400 is totally fine and no ill effects should be noticed in the aquarium.

If I already bought one of the red sea pro kits (calcium). Could I just buy these refills for Magnesium and alkalinity and have everything I need to do all 3 tests? (besides the extra test vials, I have plenty of those from my marine care kit.)
