Versatile Water Clarification & Sterilization

  • Hang-on-back Design
  • Easily Achieve Crystal Clear Water
  • Will Not Alter Water Chemistry
  • 1/2" Barbed Inlet

Quickly implement a UV onto almost any aquarium in minutes! The AquaUV Advantage series includes a hang-on-back style hanger that houses the output flow from the sterilizer, meaning you only need to plumb the input to your favorite pump using 1/2" tubing and you're ready to go.

How UV Sterilizers Work

Ultraviolet sterilizers are a time-tested approach to water clarification and sterilization. They emit a germicidal UV-C ray that will alter the DNA or RNA of single celled organisms like algae, bacteria, and protozoa, rendering them unable to reproduce. The result is crystal clear water without the use of any chemicals. Using a UV sterilizer will not alter water chemistry.

Aqua Ultraviolet sterilizers include a clear-blue cap that lets you see when the lamp is powered on, without having to risk any exposure to the harmful UV-C rays. How effective the UV sterilizer is greatly depends on having the proper flow rate through the sterilizer body, so we highly suggest using a valve or a DC pump to control the flow through the UV sterilizer. For freshwater aquariums, AquaUV suggests 700 gallons per hour for the 15 Watt Advantage 2000+ Sterilizer.

Maintenance

Over time the efficiency of the sterilizer will start to diminish because the lamp is no longer putting out the same amount of energy, but also the quartz sleeve that houses the lamp can become coated with mineral deposits and start to become cloudy. We suggest cleaning the quartz sleeve a few times each year and replacing the UV lamp annually. With proper maintenance, your UV sterilizer will work like it did from day one.

Answer by: Grace (BRS Staff) on Dec 20, 2024, 3:43 PM
For a 40 gallon mixed reef, what pump would I use with the15 watt?
Question by: Debra on Jun 15, 2023, 2:25 PM
The suggested flow rate for this is 233 GPH. I would recommend the Sicce Syncra Silent 1.0 Pump.

Is there a downside for going too big? I'm planning on using this from time to time for my 10 gal QT and 13.5 gal nano and wondering why not go 15W instead of the 8W.
Question by: Tom L on Jan 30, 2023, 10:26 AM
Thanks for the question! Going too large for a UV sterilizer is going to add extra heat to the aquarium as well as possilby oversterilize

Can the quartz sleave be cleaned?
Question by: Glen Scharer on Sep 6, 2020, 9:18 PM
Hey there,
Thank you for reaching out to us! Yes, you can soak it in vinegar or citric acid. It is recommended to wear gloves while doing so.

Please let me know if you need anything further and take care!
Answer by: Matt Lucero on Sep 9, 2020, 10:08 AM
Will this be to big for a 25 gallon AIO nano tank?
And can it hang in the back compartment where the skimmer instead of hanging off the back of the tank?
Question by: Eddie on Mar 9, 2020, 9:25 PM
Hi there,

The 15 watt would be too big, you need the 8 watt. This sterilizer cannot be submerged, it has to hang off the side or back of the tank.

Take care

Current setup is Red Sea reefer 350 with emerald 26 sump, would this work for that setup?
Question by: Rob Gleason on Mar 9, 2020, 7:07 PM
Hi there,

This sterilizer has a drain spout that is meant to HOB of a tank, with a width of 1 1/8" I do not think you could hang the spout over the rim of the sump. I would recommend a traditional sterilizer with input/output tubing.

Take care
